It’s always fun to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s especially nice when you don’t have to travel very far to do so. This was the case for our family last summer. We discovered a quiet, little oasis right here in Pensacola.
Our adventure began at a little park called Civitan. It’s tucked away in a quaint neighborhood and I can’t help but wonder how many people drive by this little, unsuspecting park and don’t realize what hidden gem lays just beyond the bayou. The park has a playground, a covered pavilion overlooking the water, and a small floating dock where you can launch your kayak or paddle board.

We unloaded our gear and made our way to the dock. It’s a short walk of less than 200 yards. We were well on our way to our very own little slice of paradise.

The paddle itself was calm, relaxing and beautiful. The water was like glass which made paddling effortless. As you paddle, you’re surrounded by some beautiful waterfront homes. As we made our way out of the Davenport Bayou, it opened up to a breathtaking panoramic view of Pensacola Bay and White Island.

I just love finding new places to explore with my family. I love that we paddle as a family and get to discover these wonderful places and create these special memories together. White Island is a great family outing because the paddle is an easy one and it’s a short distance of .5 mi. to the island.
We spent the rest of the day soaking up the sun and exploring the island.

If you get a chance to make it out to Civitan Park, I highly recommend paddling your way to White Island. You won’t regret it!
Happy Paddles!

Thanks Carol! White Island was really an unexpected surprise. We didn’t realize it was going to be such an amazing spot. We can’t wait to go back!!
Beautiful! I’ve never been to Civitan Park but will have to check it out soon. The water looks perfect for paddle board or kayaking too.
It’s really a hidden gem of Pensacola. Let me know if you make it out there to White Island!
