Paddling (attempt) at Fillingim Launch

Family Paddle

We recently launched at Fillingim Landing in Escambia, and while the spot is beautiful, the current had other plans for us. Heading north proved nearly impossible, despite steady paddling, we barely moved forward. The moment we paused to catch our breath, the river quickly pushed us back downstream.

Instead of fighting the current all day, we decided to enjoy the little white sand beach right by the launch. It is a relaxing hangout spot where we watched groups of people float south on tubes. With tubing, the current works in your favor, you can drift down and meet your ride at another exit point. Since we had paddleboards, our best option was to test the current and then float back with it. Next time, we’ll try tubing here. Sometimes it’s not about how far you go, but how much fun you have along the way.
